No the Cousins mistake was tying up all their money in one guy on a fully guaranteed contract with a no trade clause. Guaranteed money was way too high for Cousins. Look here's what needs to happen, and you need to be objective and stop looking at it from a Jefferson fan perspective. What needs to happen is Jefferson has to accept that the Vikings hold the cards, they have him for at least another 4 years if they want him, and that if he wants to get paid he will, big time, but not at some ungodly bank breaking pay day where he gets all the money and 2 contracts. He should be signing ONE contract with this team before 30 after his rookie deal. That's what is best for the TEAM. Not Jefferson, the team. We are fans, we follow the team, what is best for the team is what fans should want. What is best for players is only good for players. Jefferson wants big money, short contract, high guarantee. He wants the best of everything. That's called having your cake and eating it too. He should take a 5 year deal with high annual salary and middling guaranteed money. That way he still makes a ton of money if he plays but if he gets hurt or they want out then the team has the flexibility to do that. We as fans should never hope the player gets what they want because that hamstrings the team.
It's like labor vs management. I understand why both sides want what they want. But for us as fans we benefit more from the player taking less. That's just how it is. So naturally the team wants Jefferson for as little as possible and the longer Jefferson plays these games with contracts the more likely it is he gets hurt or something stupid happens. Lamar Jackson played this game and got very very lucky that he didn't suffer serious injury in the middle of it. Just because it worked out for Jackson doesn't mean it works out for Jefferson. The team is definitely offering him 31+/yr. He should take the money, a long contract, count his f*cking Benjamin's that 99.9% of Americans will never see, and go kick ass at football. For God's sake it's all splitting hairs over 2 or 3 million a year when the man already stands to make 30 something plus a year. I don't really give a f*ck after that, it's all bullsh*t entitlement and greed for what amounts to running fast and catching balls. We should all be so lucky but we aren't, so you will have to f*cking forgive me when I lose patience with players like Jefferson over this sh*t.
