Either way JJ is young enough where if it is a problem and we don't build up a contender he will still have value. In fact if we blow it up in 2 years and are paying part of his salary years 3-5 a team might even give more to us at that point than if we trade him now with the largest wr signing in history looming. Especially if the market keeps growing like it has.
So sign him to help the incoming rookie QB then in a couple years decide if this route is working or not...
Of trade him, take a WR in a very deep class and use the savings to get 2 stud OL that can give Darnold time to run the offense.
If we want to trade him now too we might as well just be blowing it up for a full rebuild. It’s too late for this regime to just start over like that. They finally got to the point in their plan where we move on from the aging vets, they will get at least one real shot for their own path. Seems like we will be trading up for a qb this year.
So keep JJ to help that new qb out and make a big push next year with our cap for some interior oline and dline help. If the qb works maybe we have a window to contend. If it doesn’t we can still get value for our key players and trade them off when a new regime comes in.
