You don't wanna go against your HC at that moment, but man, ... I wish he would have, especially if he wasn't 100% comfortable with it.

First, that is just the HC trying to help his QB out after he made a boneheaded play.

Second, even if it wasn't, Kirk is a 10 year vet who should at this point know he needs to throw a pass that has a chance to make it past the 1st down marker on 4th and 8. Kirk's primary read was KJ on that play and KJ was open enough where Kirk could have made an attempt to his primary read. I think the Vikings got exactly what they wanted when the middle of the field cleared, the QB just didn't do his job.

If Kirk is truly this limited and KOC can't call all of the plays in the playbook because of that, it is time to move on. Nick Mullens could have hit the wide open receivers Kirk had in this game and he is not paid the big bucks to simply make the plays he should and that he is comfortable with.

At some point I would like for us to move on from Cousins. We need a younger QB to build around. I’m not blaming him for the loss but during his tenure as a Viking, I’ve seen enough. Could the offensive line be better, yes. But I’ve seen teams with worser o-line units still have success because they had a QB who could improvise and counter against pressure/blitz. KOC said that on the last play that he wanted Kirk to play more freely but maybe should’ve directed him more. That definitely leads me to believe that most of these “clutch” drives that Cousins been having was really the coach in his ear, telling him where to go with the ball. At his age, you shouldn’t still need your coach to hold your hand. But you can tell a lot of our TD drives during the season were scripted. A lot of those drives he had to come back from behind after not doing much in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

I feel like that last play and many plays like that where we fail to extend drives is what happens when you give Kirk the freedom to do what he wants on offense. And Kirk having freedom to run the offense the way he wants is like being a deer in headlights. Kirk is making too much money and has been in the NFL too long to be babysat. His stats are cool because that’s the only thing ppl can use to defend him. But he was brought here to be more than just a stat padder. He was supposed to get us over the hump. He hasn’t. Not 100% his fault but it’s time to admit that the Cousins experience did not work. If anything we need to let him go and use that money to fill other holes on this team instead.

Our offense makes everything look like a struggle, but for opposing offenses, things look soooo easy. I'm jealous. "Oh, that's what confidence looks like." And that's what all opposing offenses were allowed to have against us - confidence. Blah.

Sadly, with this defense, even the few times they did bring heat, they still couldn't impact the QB. Their OL picked everyone up. Just all around a bad defense. But yes, they should have blitzed a lot more this season. Zimmer was a defensive minded coach and built this defense, and then O'Connell stuck with it instead of improving it.

KJ dropped the ball. Literally. It wasnt a bad throw by Cousins. Now the 4th down pass is fully on Cousins shoulders.

I'm not saying Kirk is to blame for the loss yesterday. I will note that Case Keenum has the same number of playoff wins that Kirk Cousins has. IMO Kirk is a better QB (in terms of tangible QB skills) than Keenum, but given the restrictions he places on the team's ability to field better players (due to Kirk's salary) on defense, he's not the answer. I think the Vikings need to bite the bullet, cut/trade aging players, and let the 'youngins' play next year to see what we have when we move on from Kirk. Also, your quarterback is being pressured half the time. We need 10 yards, not 50. Get the ball out quick, and have a few options to do so.

Dumb play call. Low chance of converting on 4th and 8 to begin with - much much lower with that call ... a couple running deep and a couple not running at all. Maybe a couple options 10-15 yards downfield? There was one realistic option. One. Season on the line, and neither JJ nor Hockenson is that one option? Dumb. Not excusing the throw, but the call was just as bad.
