Agreed. I'm somewhat surprised any team would trade for Dalvin's contract knowing his base salary in 2023 is still $10.4m and will count against your 2023 cap for that unless you restructure it, and maybe that's what the potential trade partner has in mind. They want to secure Cook before he hits the open market and they have to compete against other teams.
With Jacobs and Barkley being "tagged" this past week, that did leave Cook as one the premiere RB about to hit the open market.
You have to think it's a contending team that needs help in the backfield and the Dolphins immediately come to mind. I'm also wondering if Carolina (without McCaffrey and Foreman an UFA) w/ Frank Reich at the helm would want a veteran/stable RB behind a potential rookie QB if they draft one in next month's Draft.
This also gives me some slight hope that if someone offers even a 7th Rd pick for Cook and his $10m+ 2023 base salary, then it's possible that another team could offer a Day 3 pick for Thielen and his $11m+ 2023 base salary, as WR is seen as a more desired position than RB...Â
I'm flabbergasted that someone would make an offer. This is such a good RB class and there are good Free agents out there too. I hope they take up the offer, even for a late rounder it's a positive because I believe it's a lower cap hit than cutting him. Getting a draft pick would be bonus.
IDK about being flabbergasted. Let's pretend it's the Eagles. About to lose Miles Sanders. And they have an Offensive Line that is 75x better than Minnesota's. I can easily see them looking at Cook, running behind a trash IOL in the wrong blocking scheme and think 'we can afford him and open holes for him'. Not sure they use OZB but you get the jist.
