I'm flabbergasted that someone would make an offer. This is such a good RB class and there are good Free agents out there too. I hope they take up the offer, even for a late rounder it's a positive because I believe it's a lower cap hit than cutting him. Getting a draft pick would be bonus.

IDK about being flabbergasted. Let's pretend it's the Eagles. About to lose Miles Sanders. And they have an Offensive Line that is 75x better than Minnesota's. I can easily see them looking at Cook, running behind a trash IOL in the wrong blocking scheme and think 'we can afford him and open holes for him'. Not sure they use OZB but you get the jist.

It's the same cap ramifications if you release or trade him pre-June 1st...

Per Spotrac (link):

We'll save $7.9m in 2023 cap if he's released or traded prior to $2m of his 2023 base salary becoming guaranteed on 3/17, and "eat" $6.2m in dead cap, which is the 2023 & 2024 prorated portion of his signing bonus.

Also, Spotrac currently has the Vikings at ($15m) in the red for the 2023 cap following the release of Kendricks on Monday. If the Vikings trade Cook (saving $7.9m) and release/trade Thielen (saving $6.4m), that gets the Vikings within $1m of getting under the cap, all without touching Kirk's contract.

The Star Trib journalists have speculated on their podcasts this week that they believe the goal for Kwesi is to not give Kirk and his agent any leverage in any possible extention negotiations. In year's past, both Rick and Kwesi last year both first approached Kirk to give them some cap space and Kirk's team responded with guarantees and no-trade clauses (ie, not much flexibility). So to prevent that from happening again - especially in light of the uptick in QB contract prices - Kwesi doesn't want to approach Kirk for any cap space relief and wants to force their hand to either just play it out in 2023 or have them "blink" and give the Vikings some flexibility.

"A good FA class" is arguable at best, and rookies are always unknowns. Just because the world proclaims a guy to be the next great back doesn't mean it's going to materialize.

Dalvin is a proven commodity and probably has another 2 years of game-breaking ability left, that's doable for a team with a ton of cap space to burn and in dire need for an infusion of talent at the RB position.

There really is no big market for RBs with Pollard, Jacobs, and Barkley getting tagged. Cook is the clear "Best" one I would say. A contending team like the Bills , Dolphins or even Jags throwing a 5th-7th to kick the tires isnt completely shocking. I would take whatever is offered if im the Vikings its a no brainer. My personal opinion is the team offering a pick should use that on a rookie RB lol but I understand that is not how everyone thinks, so im not completely shocked.

Interesting stuff..Yeah I like that approach, but regardless they shouldve never let it happen after the 2018 original contract. I get its different GM now but still. I really hope they have the balls to let kick play it out, I just wont believe it until I see it.

Really? I'd take all three of those guys over Cook right now. If it's Cook in his prime, sure, but that's in the past.

Why would they want Dalvin Cook? They already have a 1000 yard rusher in Justin Fields. I don't think Chicago would be Cook's top destination.

On top of that, a running QB creates a ton of opportunities for his RB. Imagine what Cook could do if in an RPO the defense was as worried about the QB keeping it as they were about Cook?
