Week 3 was a success. We ran the ball better. We need to run the ball better. Period. This offense needs an equal marriage of run and pass. Week 3 is over. We won. Doesn’t matter how. Now we need to do something that has been lacking for quite some time - build off that win. Here’s why we win against the Saints.
1. It’s October. Kirk is 10-5 as a Viking in October. Even better is that in October, Kirk is 6-1 as the away team. This is his time.
2. The preseason is officially over and time for our veterans to lead. Remember, not many of the starting 22 saw a single snap in the 3 preseason games. There was bond to be rust on top of the executing a new offense and a new defense. It was going to take about 3 weeks to get in some sort of rhythm, to find our stride. Week 4’s performance will unofficially kick off the season and they will show that this team will be a force to reckon with.
3. The Saints are banged up. One impressive thing to date is that when we compare the injury list with our upcoming opponent. Their list is always 2-3 times greater than ours. The Saints are without Winston (which actually may be a plus), they are missing their WR1, their WR2 is also limited in practice as is their RB1, and their best interior linemen is out. Their missing their starting safety. Basically, they’re a mess. Us? Only Z Smith is questionable. That’s it.
This is why we win this Sunday. October is our best month. Preseason is officially over. The Saints are literally hurting. We just have to keep using the run to set up the pass and bend-but-don’t-break on defense.
Jolly.
