Week 3 - Lions @ Vikes Support Group

Just win baby! Well, I don't know, that was a strange game to me but maybe I haven't seen enough games. I mean, it certainly sounded like the Boo-Birds were there in the first half and I can't blame them. Lions came out like gangbusters. 

CBS Sports grades, both MN and Detroit got a B- which to me, I think is a fair verdict.

 We meet again December 11th; so quite a while but if Detroit keeps it up, that promises to be a real challenge. 

First of all Mcvay is a very rare species not really fair to compare him to anyone. Guy already has a coaching tree at his young age which is crazy in itself. But anyways I think its more about execution than scheme. Drops are killing drives and you have the picks in Philly. Missed fields indoors should never happen and still point up 28 at the end of the day. Moved the ball with ease Sunday just had a few drive killers. Dont forget the Cook butt fumble. Ill fully assess the offense around week 5 it should be a fine tuned machine, if its not then ill ask two things. Is it Kirk or Kevin? Id be willing to bet it would be Kirk.

The reality is we have to play that soft coverage because our corners are dirty diapers. The only hope is Booth and Evans can turn into something. But i doubt they would ever actually bench Peterson. Guy is a huge liability hes gotten burnt bad at least once a game so far luckily Watson dropped it, and Goff overthrew one. Dantzler got abused vs Detriot and the numbers showed that. I think Donatell knows he has to play bend dont break with this defense and the reality is it is kinda working based on PPG. The offense needs to carry this team if we are going anywhere this season.

Was it because we were playing the Lions at home?

Oh I agree we should have very high expectations, with how they chose to go with the roster and "running it back". They need to win 10 games minimum and get to at least the divisional round or its an absolute failure. Id go even further and say NFC title game. But I think that is more the ownerships issue rather than coach. At the end of the day we are 2-1 which is right where you can want to be playing the Eagles and Packers. I think its more of an execution thing on offense than Kevin scheme/playcalling anway. Now it wasnt pretty last week but we put up 28 points and left on the board 2 missed field goals, another big Irv drop as well. Jj had at least one easy drop as well.  You have the cook fumble in lions territory. Basically moving the ball with ease. I think it comes down to execution just like in Philly we had the chances.

Defensively, it comes down to a talent issue with the corners who just arent good enough to press and, which is why we are in the "shell". At the end of the day the ppg are fine. Id like to see the rookies get some playing time in there, with Booth, cine, evans , and even Asamoah. But the offense is going to have to carry this team if we want to be taken seriously.  Getting out to leads and not going 3 and outs can work wonders on helping an average defense. 

My main point was im not going to judge this team, and we have no idea who they are yet. I think around week 5/6 after the dolphins game we will have a better understanding who they are. But it is a lot better being 2-1 than 0-3 or 1-2. I mean you cant have it both ways, last year when everyone cried early on about bengals and cardinals shouldve been wins, but they weren't. Now we get those wins and they aren't good enough? Thats the NFL for you. The game is a lot of luck mostly, unless you are a truly dominant team like say the Patriots 19-0 year, teams are going to look average and crappy for most of the year besides a select few games. Look at the Bengals run last year, they couldve easily loss wild card weekend and every playoff game after. Its why we watch every week.
