Kirk this. Kirk that. Coaches this. Scheme and preparation that. Blah. Blah. Blah. I get it. All of this needs to improve. But what I don't understand is how bright, laser focused Viking fans REFUSE to direct even the slightest criticism towards the biggest problem on the team, EK.
EK cannot play tackle football. Period. End of discussion. Our D is playing with ten guys and EK, a guy who is content with jumping on the pile after the play. The guy is timid, soft and now, apparently slow as well. What about that pass break up against GB? If you are on the filed for every play, sooner or later, even the ticket takers can get in the way. Did anyone bother to watch Dillon run over him at least three times in week one? He was a complete NO-SHOW on Monday night. He played and looked scared.
The MLB position is the most important position on the D. The MLB sets the tone, leads the way, comes downhill hard and establishes that physical presence. Not EK. He plays side to side and backwards. When the new regime took over my biggest fear was that they'd play it back with EK. They did. We will pay the price for it. We are going to continue to get heel-stomped in the running game unless we make a change at this one position. We need to do it ASAP.
The problem with this D isn't it coaching or scheming. It's players. We are soft and feminine on D and it starts with EK. Get him off the field!!! I don't have many more seasons left; I'm getting up there in years. Before I die, I want a Butkus or Lewis in MN. I get EK, the Paul Krause of MLBs.
