I remember Irv being more explosive previously. Maybe it's the knee or he was still ramping up, but it didn't even seem like he could get away from a LB this year. Maybe that's anecdotal but I'm not sure where he fit on this team in the future.
And it seems like the vikes are pretty full up on replacement level TEs for the future.
It's kind of a interesting move from the standpoint of where KOC and KAM stand on TE's in general. They either didn't think the TE position was all that important and changed their mind or they expected to get a lot more out of Irv and basically decided to give up on him. It might be a combo of both. I, hopefully, underplayed the importance of having at least someone pretty good at that spot. At least my thought was that Irv could be avg. and get us by. Not so much.
I'm liking this move more and more. They had to have gone to school over the bye and seen how little attention opposing defenses were needing to give KJ and AT. Now let's hope those guys get freed up more.
