Fair points for sure. Every once in a while you get a guy who ascends late in his career (Tom Johnson) but usually not. That said a guy like James Lynch is playing against the same scrubs and doing almost nothing. I'd take McGill over him when it comes to depth.

McGill’s pressure rate was about the same during his journeyman years from 2017-21:
1 sack, 5 hits and 13 total pressures in about 150 pass rush snaps.

Lynch is playing NT and isn’t on the field in most pass rush situations.

He’s grading in the mid 70s, has 5 tackles and 3 stops. He only played 16 snaps yesterday. Vikings run defense didn’t give up a thing with him in there.

Lynch is still one of the younger players on the team — only 23 this year. Nose tackles usually take a few years to get up to speed and he’s been changing his body type.

McGill if he sticks is going to be a rotational pass rusher at DE/DT, competing with Watts and Bullard. Lynch would be the backup/rotational DT for Phillips and maybe sometimes Tomlinson, on early downs.

Who said anything about draft? But hard pass on Sack Willis and his one read 4.19 TTT that would make Jalen Hurts blush. He's not a good fit for the O'Connell system anyway. Had we hired Harbaugh, Willis might have made sense. He took Kaepernick to a Super Bowl. The only similar QB KOC has worked with is maybe Haskins and that didn't go so well.

The point being, I understand the new regime keeping Mond, but there's absolutely no excuse for bringing Mannion back. Don't care if he's familiar with the system, needs to hold Kirks hand, whatever ... he shouldn't be on an NFL roster. Your backup QB needs to be able to play. They had plenty of time to find a backup QB that could maybe win a few games if something finally happens to Kirk because we really are playing with fire as far as his durability goes. Vikings fans probably know better than anyone that you should never taunt the football gods.

I mean it doesn't exactly instill confidence in the new regime knowing they had huge question marks with Mond and brought in Mannion as a contingency plan, while telling us through their other actions that we're in a 2 year win now window. The first year is quickly wasted if Cousins gets hurt, or it's going to be 2016 all over again. We'll have to waste a high draft pick to bring in an emergency QB, a draft pick that could have been used to draft Cousins replacement.

QUARTERBACK
• The Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion show continued for Minnesota this preseason. Mond was easily the more volatile of the two, making a whopping three turnover-worthy plays.

• Mannion ended 10-of-15 with neither a big-time throw nor a turnover-worthy play.

RUNNING BACK
• A valued fantasy football handcuff to Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison was Minnesota's most productive back on the night. His three carries went for 17 yards and he forced a missed tackle.

RECEIVERS
• Olabisi Johnson led the team in targets (6) and hauled in three for 29 yards, all of which resulted in first downs.

• Tight end Zach Davidson managed to drop three of his four targets on the night.

OFFENSIVE LINE
• Second-year guard Wyatt Davis and center Austin Schlottmann were among the Vikings' standouts after allowing no pressure on 12 and 25 pass-blocking snaps, respectively.

Another bad game for the coaching staff. After last week saw the team committing penalties and coming out of the gate not ready to play early, this week KOC failed to call an offense that could score points and then he coached the D to give up points at the end of the half.

I actually laughed but then I realized you weren't joking.

Yes they were so poorly coached last week with the illegal contact penalties and this week allowing a FG drive before halftime. O'Connell should've called an offense that didn't involve Mond throwing the ball to the defense. Delete that play from the playbook!

In real life, O'Connell is scheming the WRs open, and Donatell's defensive scheme is limiting the run game while taking away deep passes. Their backups are playing pretty well, aside from the QBs. But the punt returners suck, and don't seem to have any confidence.

So the best angry-fan angle after preseason week 2 would be why didn't Kwesi bring in a better backup QB and find someone who actually knows how to catch a punt (a couple of the best USFL returners have had nice showings in preseason, we could've signed one). There's not a lot to fault the coaches on yet.

Well O'Connell was tasked to fix the offense/QB's and so far he's 0 for 2. But the plays that need to be deleted on defense are the ones we're using coming out of halftime. Perhaps they should change whose been doing the halftime pep talks.

Yikes, an average of 5 first downs allowed per drive. The ol bend, bend some more, and then break defense. The start of games haven't been much better, the Raiders opened with a 15 play drive in the opener.

Ha, well as I just pointed out, our 2 min defense looks a lot better overall, but ooooo boy now they can't get off the field at the beginning of a half.
