How many TD's did Cousins throw last year? How many playoff games did we get to last year? Individual stats mean nothing in this game. Nothing. Wins are what matters. Its a team effort but when so much cap is used on a QB that cant get this team to where it should be, maybe find a cheaper QB until more of the rest of the team is improved. Cause the Cousins experiment isnt working.
The point of analyzing this data was to see what impact Pass Blocking has on Win %. The initial data from Reignman showed that Pass Blocking grade mattered very much. (the data is a few pages back so I can't copy it easily now.) One consequence of this data is that Cousins had a good O-Line with the Redskins but he didn't win at the expected rate. As a Viking, the initial data showed Vikings Pass Blocking was ranked 26th for 2018-2021. A more recent list from our data guru (Reignman) showed the Vikings at 30th in Pass Blocking for the same period. Both are bad and the expected Win Rate is less than .400. (.350 to .370) I concluded that Cousins has improved because his record as a Viking is better despite having a worse O-Line. So if the data guru's data are real and don't have an error in them, I conclude that the poor O-Line has limited Cousins' ability to win games in crunch time.
I conclude this looking at the data, not as a Cousins advocate. I think Cousins is overpaid, and one consequence of him being overpaid is not having Cap to acquire a good O-line. Spielman realized he had an O-Line problem, and he addressed it in the draft, but a miss on Bradbury and Elflein derailed or delayed the fix.
What do our eyes tell us? The 49ers, Bucs, Packers, and Rams all have good pass rushes; if you are going to contend, your QB needs time to pass. Even Mahomes and Brady, without time to pass, do not win Super Bowls.
Big picture, we want the Vikings to contend and win a Super Bowl. Cousins is the QB this year, and he could have an average or even better than average O-Line. That would be great because then it will be on Cousins et al to work with KO and the OC.... to win games in crunch time. If and when he does not win, find a way to move on from Cousins.
It will be challenging this year because the defenses they face ranked 6th last year. (Buf, NE, GB..)
