I do to, Mattison could be very benficial down the stretch. If the Vikings have a winning record at around week 15, there is no sense in risking Cook to injury against divisional rivals in cold weather conditions. Mattison took over games while at BSU in snowy, cold weather conditions, just saying. I also like your point about Mattison being a solid pass protector. Kene and Ty look good running in preseason against 2 and 3 string defenses, but that doesn't mean they can step up on gamedays if Cook has an injury. The vikings know what we have in Mattison and KOC can scheme around that.

IMO, the only way Mattison isn't on the roster this year is if a desperate team overvalues/overpays his worth and trades for him (say injury, heaven forbid). But the other 2 look to have a very promising Vikings future and do make Mattison expendable after the season.

Might as well hang onto him this year.

With more performances and runs like he had against the Raiders for the rest of the preseason, Chandler, like Nwangwu, is going to force the Vikings to give him some looks once the regular season begins.

With Cook, Mattison, Nwangwu, and Chandler as four really talented running backs out of the Minnesota backfield, there is no reason for the Vikings to envy other teams’ rushing talent. Even if Cook goes down to injury again or slows down as a 27-year-old running back—or if Mattison walks after this season—there’s no reason to panic. Nwangwu and Chandler will still be there, ready to step up and ball out.

Its no surprise. Chandler is a legit RB2 and you might as well take advantage of him on his rookie deal. Mattison is gone next year. There is no way the Vikings get a 3rd for him and even a 4th seems unlikely. Teams arent dumb they know the situation, the Vikings have no leverage. Id let him go for a 5th if thats all you could get.

For instance I’d accept a 5th from Atlanta but not say Kansas City.

Pft is saying at least 12 teams are interested in a trade for mattison. If we can get a 4th round pick for him you do it easily. He is a lower level starter and great back up. If you are a team like commanders or Atlanta who need a rb right now it seems pretty simple. Plus they can offer him an extension while the season goes on.

I wouldn't trade him for less than a 4th. The list of RBs that had a great preseason and went on to do absolutely zilch in their careers is loooong.

Yes, Chandler looked very good. But until I see him do it against all Starters I'm going to pump the brakes on moving one of the best backups in the League who will almost certainly have to fill in for at least 2-3 games.
