The owners must actually hope it is A (doomed), because the other option is a storm-the-castle-with-pitchforks-and-torches offense. Come on, the Browns won 20 regular season games over the last 2 seasons - you have to go back to Bernie Kosar to find that level of decency. They won a playoff game, hired a bright young coach, figured out how to get some good out of all the high draft picks they had been making...and they had a quarterback who was on a far higher level than the sad parade of losers they have tried.
But they punted away that QB (Mayfield) into a situation likely to give them nothing but dead cap, gutted their draft capital for 3 years, and buried themselves in salary cap hell...for a player who won't suit up until 2023 at best and be as rusty as Colin Kaepernick.
It was odd to see them ditch Mayfield after there was talk about an extension over the 2021 offseason - but I thought it was mostly clear that Mayfield's horrid play in 2021 was caused by his torn labrum and other injuries that he tried to tough out. Their team doctors should have shut him down for a spell, and instead Baker tried to play through it. While I don't think he has a very high ceiling, I think he can revert back to his 2020 form in 2022... I understand going all-in for a QB of Watson's caliber and getting off Mayfield. It'd be far more understandable if they made the move for Russell Wilson.
I think they got Mike Vick - at best.
You mean character-wise? Because QB-wise they aren't that similar - Watson is leagues beyond Vick as a passer and Vick was far more elusive as a runner.
