Why, when someone 'known' dies can't we just be saddened by the news of their passing? No, too many go right to dissecting all the things they 'may' have done wrong in their lives or wrong to cause their own death. Haskins dies and some go right to 'what was his BAC?' Gladney dies, same thing....even going right to his domestic violence situation. Do any one of you actually know he DID something wrong? Nope. Because he was accused of a crime, you assume he committed one...despite still being with the person he supposedly committed it against. Because he died speeding, you assume he was just being reckless and that the passenger was totally innocent. For all you know there was an emergency. Then comparing him to Ruggs?! Ruggs sat on a curb while the woman he struck sat screaming in her car burning to death.
So, are we going to be dissecting Marion Barber's demise now, too? What did HE do wrong? How 'bout we dissect all YOUR decisions? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
To answer your question, ... because people are jerks? lol, no, but it goes both ways. If they weren't "known" - would we care at all? Our opinions of people shape a lot, including the feelings we have about the news of their passing.
For me, Gladney made mistakes - some big, inexcusable ones - but do I believe he should have died because of those mistakes? No, and I had hoped he'd turn things around. Therefore, I still do feel sad for him, his passenger, what could have been, and for their loved ones.
The NFL has had a lot of tragedy and drama in recent years. Hopefully these young guys learn. They aren't invincible, and they can lose everything in the blink of an eye - their careers, or worse, their lives.
