Trading a lot is not inherently good or bad. You have to look at the context regarding the trading.
I personally don't like trading down and would prefer trading up because you have a better chance of filling the trophy case with the elite type players you're more likely to find higher in the draft than a bunch of the ok starters you might find in the middle of the draft. Trading down tells me a GM is content with mediocrity, or as Kwesi puts it "being competitive".
I doubt we could have obtained a future #1, or maybe even a #2, because all evidence now suggests this draft was seen as poor quality material.
Rick and KAM have the same draft strategy. f*ck, it's like Rick never left.
