Comments:
- I think Ragatz has the numbers-per-position correct, with 6 WR, 9 OL and 11 DL (if you include DT, DE & OLB/EDGE).
- I'm not sold on Nailor making the 53-man roster over T Jackson and M Mitchell, and it might come down to how confident the coaching staff is on sneaking Nailor to the Practice Squad. Teams like the Bears, who are devoid of WR talent/depth, might claim someone like Nailor. They might keep Nailor on the 53-man and then just put someone like Mitchell on the PS who might have a higher chance to make it through waivers.
- With Schlottman on the PS, there's a concern about who backs up Bradbury at OC if he goes down. I'm guessing it's Reed, but I do wonder if they look at a veteran backup. Honestly, if they bring in another IOL depth player with OC experience, Davis might be the odd man out: Udoh and Brandel are already the backup OT's and Udoh can play RG in a pinch in Ingram does down and Davis seems to be out. If J Davis is the odd man out, then they eat $2m in dead money from the $2.75m in guaranteed money they gave him, and we probably chalk that one up to a rookie GM "miss" by Kwesi.
- Davidson making it over Ellefson is interesting as Ellefson is probably a stronger blocker (he certainly seemed to get some blocking praise from preseason Game 1).
- That 5th OLB/EDGE spot is up for grabs and I'm not so sure Janarius Robinson is the frontrunner. I'm really looking forward to preseason Games 2 & 3 to see who wins that 5th OLB battle.
- The other concern outside of the backup OC position is slot CB - there's not much experience there behind Sullivan. I do wonder if we scour the waiver wire come 53-man roster cutdown day for some add'l depth there.
