I'm familiar with the history of the position, unfortunately I'm also familiar with how abysmal Dantzler's play was last year.
He doesn't need to be given a starting job unless Booth comes out completely lost or he's injured and can’t stay on the field.
And considering our history with drafting corners, BOTH are a distinct possibility. That is....if he's not arrested for smacking his girlfriend, first.
Look - we all remember Detroit. However, overall, Dantzler was actually pretty good. According to PFF, he graded out at 73.8 and only allowed 33 receptions on 63 targets.
I am thinking Dantzler is going to come into his own this year and really shine.
I really hope you're right.
And FTR, I'm a proponent of PFF "for the most part", but the eye test is what I make my ultimate judgments on, much like how I do with Kirk. He lights it up in PFF on a regular basis, but watching him, it's evident that he falls woefully short.
Dantzler doesn't have an iota of the natural ability and most importantly, the ball-tracking skills that Booth possesses, that's a trait that NONE of the CBs we've drafted recently have possessed. That's why I'm hoping for Booth to be our day 1 starter. He also has the closing speed that Dantzler lacks.
When you face a guy like Aaron Rodgers who makes his living on back-shoulder and tight-window throws, having a guy who knows where the ball is at all times could actually make the difference between 3 or 4 huge gains and stops or even INTs.
We desperately need him to live up to the all the draft analyst hype and have the skills he exhibited at the collegiate level translate to the NFL.
