I normally don't do this on someone else's forum, but thank you to Funkytown for being the one who suggested I do this.
I'm the co-creator of a game called Jockstocks that takes fantasy sports to a unique level; it's a stock simulation. Basically following many of the same stat categories traditional fantasy does, instead of drafting a team you're buying and selling shares of player stocks.
But we don't just have football players on our market, no no, we follow the MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA, and NASCAR, too.
Here's a quick screen shot of current Vikings on the market.
A few basics- firstly, the game is free to play and the current market is set up so stocks, in general, trend upwards. The plan was always to have a market that was casual-user-friendly, but add a more real-world version with mutual funds, futures, etc later. You don't care about that part yet; how do you play the game NOW?
Once you register your free account (and if you have issues, well you know who to contact and there are multiple ways) your account will have several portfolios (or for short, ports). If you're playing casually (or just starting out) you might just play your legacy port (currently called total value) because that one you can just build on forever. The other ones are competition ports that reset at the end of the month, season, whatever type of portfolio it is.
Another major way we differ from traditional fantasy is that every player on our market is given projections, based on their prior season, for pertinent stat categories. Every morning stocks receive a stock dividend (price adjustment) based on how their actual stats put up the day before compare to those projections. For example, if Dalvin Cook puts up 150 yards and a score, he might get a decent dividend. If Alexander Mattison puts up 150 yards and a score he'd get a noticeably larger dividend- because he would beat his projections by much more than Dalvin beat his. Of course if neither plays, neither earns a dividend...so with the current market, stocks move as people buy shares, but people buy shares because the player put up stats indicating a positive dividend. Therefore, buying stocks out of season won't grow your portfolio.
To play competitively, users are largely flipping their entire portfolio daily- buy 10 stocks tonight, sell them all tomorrow, lather rinse repeat. Of course you can just play casually, hold your buys longer, and watch your portfolio grow.
That's probably more than enough info about the game. This has been a hobby site for years, but was always intended to be more. While I always plan for the basic game to be free, the plan has been to add premium competitions, premium features, etc as well. Because there's not been money coming in, the site currently has some quirks because the coding needs updating, but the game itself works just fine...and with Funkytown's connections we may just be soon getting updating started.
Edit: If you sign up, know that your username will display on leaderboards once you start trading, so don't use your email address and please don't be vulgar- only I can change a username once an account is created.
Got questions? I have the answers...as far as Jockstocks that is.
