What exactly is good about it? Serious question, why is handing out what amounts to a franchise tag a year before it is necessary, a positive for this franchise?
Typically teams only use the franchise tag when they have to, because it does not lend itself to cap flexibility and is just generally bad for cap management. It is a bad contract for the team and some very good players are going to not be Vikings in 2023 because of it.
I was okay with moving on from Cousins, but not throwing in the towel. As I said earlier, this means we aren't blowing it up nor are we getting Watson. I can live with the contract for those other two realities.
Cousins has a chance to pull a Rodgers and prove it with a young, offensive-minded HC while we pick the QBOTF. This buys us time to pick the right guy and not just a guy. Win-win.
