They were still expensive and aging and paid more than their market value so I seriously doubt they had value on the trade market. The economics were similar. The players were probably a little better thought of but owed even more money. I'm guessing that part of the impetus for rolling it back is because they were basically stuck with all those contracts. They could have started eating dead cap last year but it was less justifiable considering how much it would have been to move on from those guys a year ago. So it made sense to try and get another year of production out of them even though they weren't worth what they were being paid.
The value they for sure could have gotten by cutting them last year was the extra cap space saved from not paying them for 2022. Enough to keep Tomlinson or go out and sign a starting caliber RG instead of what we have.
