I have been extremely disappointed with our moves the past few days/week like many others. My excitement for Kwesi and KOC was very high and now I just struggle to find optimism after we seemingly are doing the exact same thing that lead to our last regime's exit. Extend Kirk, push cap down the road, try and fill in the holes cheap since our cap situation keeps getting tighter and tighter.
However, I do wonder how much of this is essentially due to ownership wanting to compete. Was the entire idea given to the new regime you should keep our veterans and make another push this year with a new coach?
“We are in a better place as an organization because of their work, but we’re trying to elevate off of this foundation we have here and get to the next level,”
“I wouldn’t classify (a transition in team leadership) as (a rebuild),” Wilf said. “I believe we can be super competitive in 2022.”
“I certainly do believe and even more so now that we’ve got our leadership in place that we are built to be successful right away,” Wilf said. “We feel very confident about that and like you heard before, we’re going to work with Kirk as our quarterback, and we’ll move forward from there. But for 2022, for sure, we’re going to be super competitive. Sustained success is the goal, and I think we have it with this leadership.”
I also saw this in an article about a possible trade but who knows the credibility

"NFL Network also reported that the Vikings had been receiving trade calls in recent days and elected instead to stick with their QB. One person with knowledge of the situation suggested that the offers may not have satisfied ownership’s requirements for a deal."
Ownerships requirements? They have been saying it all along, I thought it might be a smoke screen to drive up the price but the Wilfs almost from the start have said they want to stay super competitive. It might have been something agreed on that we wouldn't take a step back so there wasn't much choice. We don't really have any options to upgrade and they weren't wanting to take much of a step back. Maybe the idea is this draft is weaker at QB and next year is when we want to draft a QB (then give him a year under Kirk). Who knows the full plan but this might have been something where they were kinda tied to competing this year but still know long term it isn't the answer. We didn't just push cap down the road with Pierce so maybe they are somewhat trying to avoid those issues still despite extending Kirk again. I am willing to give it more time before judging him too harshly even if I am not overly pleased with the route we took.
