Having serious doubts about KAM already?

I believe I read somewhere that Kwesi had 6 trades during the 2022 Draft, the most by any team, so I agree it's very possible that he could recoup some middle round picks by moving down in the early rounds.

But the 2023 Draft is shaping up to for the Vikings to find that QB1 of the future for life beyond Cousins, and you want all the Draft ammo you can get, which is why it was a little concerning that he couldn't get some 2023 early Rd draft value in that trade-down with Detroit in 2022. I'm not a massive fan of trading away future early Rd draft picks, either, as that's more roster depth and this new Front Office needs to "competitively rebuild" the depth that Rick/Zimmer didn't leave behind.

The philosophy here is that Kwesi is gambling more on using 4th/5th Rd picks on former early Rd picks that have so far "busted" in the hopes they can turn it around with the Vikings, vs gambling on turning those 4th/5th Rd picks into Bynum/Kene/Diggs. It's an interesting approach, but quite honestly, when it comes to "buy low/sell high", my definition of "buying low" is late 6th/7th Rd picks vs 4th/5th Rd picks...

Another thing to consider when it comes to 4th/5th Rd picks: they aren't just used for acquiring depth via those picks - they are often used for Draft day maneuvering, so it's all good to deal future 4th/5th's, but when you're in the 2nd/3rd Rd and you want to move up for someone you like and you don't have a 4th or a 5th to do it, you're forced to let that player go by or start trading away future picks and get into the cycle of then trying to recoup it.

Yes, I agree - I think it's looking like Kwesi may have possibly "hit" on over 50% of the picks in his first Draft if those players continue to progress like we hope. But what Round did Kwesi draft Evans and Chandler - both valuable depth pieces in Yr 1 and possible starters later in their rookie deals? Rounds 4 and 5...

...and right now we don't have a 2023 4th, and we're already out a 4th or 5th in 2024...

With Rick/Zimmer not leaving around a whole bunch of roster depth behind the starters and Kwesi/O'Connell waiving some of the depth we did have (Watts, Smith-Marsette), I am wondering where the future depth will come from without those future middle round picks.

I have to disagree with this QB centric take on the 2023 draft.

I think there is a much higher likelihood that the Vikings add 2-3 years to Cousins contract. The bonus amount and void years on Cousins contract are structured as if the current extension has a "fill in the blank later" for years 2, 3 and maybe 4. Turning Cousins 1 year extension into a 3 or 4 year extension would take him through age 36 or 37.

Obviously, if there is a high upside QB available, the Vikings could strike liue the Chiefs did for Patrick Mahomes. But if you are thinking "draft a QB" is Plan A, and evaluating moves towards that goal, I think you are just fooling yourself.

god, I hope you are wrong. I am so tired of Kirk underachieving, and all the excuses fans here make for him. OFC if we get to the SB this year, I will gladly eat a plate of crow.

I'll take spending late rounders on guys with high potential but have been flops so far - the chances of late rounders panning out is just that low. The price on Reagor seemed a tad high, but if he continues to stink it'll be a 2024 5th which is not much of a loss.

Giving a middling QB a 2-3 year fully guaranteed contract that would start when that QB is 36 should get Kwesi fired immediately.

Sure it is, if that leads to a .500 record and a very average offense despite having one of the best WR/RB groups in the NFL.
