Saw this, too:
T-10. Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings)
For the first time in Deep Ball Project history, Kirk Cousins is a top 10 deep passer. He's tied for 10th but that still counts!
Arguably the most polarizing player in the league right now, Cousins has as many haters as he does fans. It's fun to make fun of him for sure, but with the Vikings his downfield ability has improved tremendously to the point where, dare I say he's one of the more accurate deep passers in the league?
Outside of atrocious accuracy against Edge Pressure there's a lot for fans of Cousins to like here. He was great on throws of 21-30 and 41+ yards, and finished in the top 5 without pressure, outside the pocket, and Under Center. He was also 7th in tight window accuracy, a stat he's become quite good at.
Interestingly, Cousins' started off accurate on 16 of his first 25 passes (64.00%) before dipping to 6 accurate passes on his next 19 attempts (31.58%). Going into the last game of the season his Accuracy Percentage was at 50%, but against the Lions he was accurate on 5 of 6 passes.
Cousins padding his stats in the last game of the season might be the most Cousins thing possible, but he was also the only QB to throw three touchdowns of 21+ yards in a single game, which is still impressive. Love him or hate him, his deep accuracy has taken huge strides in recent years. The arm strength isn't phenomenal, but the accuracy is closer to that reality.
LONGEST COMPLETION BY AIR YARDS: Week 14 vs Pittsburgh (11:00 4Q: 53 air yards, 16 YAC to Justin Jefferson for the touchdown)
The connection between Cousins and Justin Jefferson has been putting up blockbuster numbers, and this canyon rainbow is an example of that.
LONGEST COMPLETION BY TOTAL YARDS: Week 2 at Arizona (14:27 1Q: 64-yard touchdown to KJ Osborn)
Hey look, another touchdown. Something interesting to note is that while Vikings fans had complained about offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak preventing Cousins from throwing the ball down the field, he actually threw deep more in 2021 than he did in 2020 (same amount of games played, too). I'm not trying to say they're wrong, I'm just saying.
PERSONAL FAVORITE THROW: Week 9 at Baltimore (8:39 1Q: 50-yard touchdown to Justin Jefferson)
Cousins has really come a long way on these quick shots down the field, an area he used to struggle in. Jefferson is arguably a top 3 receiver so this helps, but this is a money throw over the middle of the field in stride with a condensing pocket
