Im not one of the ones who thinks Cousins sucks. He doesn't at all, and I agree he was not one of the top 3 problems last year. My reasoning to move on from has little to do with Cousins actual play, it is more about cost and the current state of the team. QB is always looked at the most important position on the team, which can be true, but there are only a handful of guys in the NFL that are going to overcome a teams deficiencies and give you a chance to win it all and Kirk Cousins is not on that list. Which is totally fine I still think it is possible to win a super bowl with Kirk. You put him on the rams, 9ers or bucs even Id say yes sure Kirk can win it all.
We had our chance in 2018, unfortunately we thought our team was a lot better and Kirk with our Oline was not a great fit, not to mention the head coach is a dinosaur who hated him. Anyways I dont agree with your reasoning that if you get rid of Kirk you need to have a guy replacing him be "better" right away. Our team, with Kirk, again not all his fault, has missed the playoffs 3/4 years anyway. Its a team game it always will be. Our team is not talented enough to be paying a QB like Kirk over 30 million a year. Let Kwesi build a team first and then you can worry about the QB. Is QB the reason we didn't win in 2017?? You have to let it go sometimes, similar to what Seattle is doing now. Does that make Seattle better on 03/09/22?? Absolutely not. But them like us havent been a legit contender in what 4 years at least. So Seattle is getting rid of a future HOF, super bowl winning QB but you are scared to let go of Kirk Cousins ? Its kind of insanity to me to be honest. You have to take the purple shades off sometimes and realize the state of the team.
1) Enjoy adequate QB play while they search for a new QB.
2) Watch flaming hot garbage while they search for a new QB.
This isn't a trick question, the answer is very clear.
Any argument along the lines of “we should get worse out so we get a good QB in the draft” is simply detached from reality. Both the reality that teams will always do whatever they can to win as much as they can, and the reality that that having the first shot at a QB in the draft usually doesn't work.
The question really is do we: 1 extend again for what Kirk believes his value is? 2 play out the $45 million for next year and get nothing but a comp pick? 3 get anything we can above that comp pick value now before forced into either 1 or 2?
