We've not exactly been...stellar...in the 1st. Granted, can't blame situations like Udeze, Floyd, or even Teddy Two Gloves on the pick itself....but there's a lot of DNPOs (did not pan outs) on that list

How does that compare to other teams' 1st round drafting?

I don't know....I'm not concerned with theirs!

No, I don't know if it's 'on par' with other teams or not, I just know that for every Harrison Smith we've had an Erasmus James, for every Justin Jefferson we've had, well 2...Troy Williamson and LaQuan Treadwell..........just seems like Rick was better at day 2-3 picks than day 1.

Good thing Rick isn’t in charge now then. Our new gm I’m assuming will be better at hitting on first round picks than Rick was.

Are you putting the onus on Spielman for James and Williamson? Because they both predate his time here.

Spielman was hired after the 2006 Draft when Fran Foley was fired for lying on his resume.

I won't debate Spielman had his draft misses, mostly near the end of his time, but don't lay blame for things he had no hand in.

no you're right, I wasn't intending to put it all on Rick...he wasn't even in charge of the draft until 2012, participated 2006-2011....just sayin' our sometimes questionable 1st rd picks have been going on for awhile now

If Gardner is there I would 100% be happy with the pick. I dont think he is going to be. Stingley is obviously a big wildcard, and would be my next choice I wouldnt mind if the pick was used on him. I think with JJ here you would get the best out of him. Other than that I dont know if I would be thrilled with a pick at CB at #12. Maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth for how much capital we have spent on the position and noone is here, but I also feel like it is a hard position to hit right in the first round especially. Its obviously a huge need at this point and the biggest weakness on the team

My bet is Wyatt Davis is better than the old regime gave him credit for. If so, RG may be covered.

BPA is my preference at 12, and I think Stingley is worth the risk (he says knowing the last time the Vikings picked at 12, a lot of people thought Ponder would be a solid QB, too)

I'm just laying the expectations of the new GM: league-wide average for 1st round draft picks being at least rosterable after 3 years is about 50-50.

Yeah, I can see them trading back to get future capital but I still think they target CB. The way the contracts are set up, you gotta figure they are going to go hard after a QB in the draft next year
