Running back is tougher. How long can Dalvin Keep carrying the ball 20 times a game? I don't think Mattison is a bellcow in that sense but could work in a two back situation. Kene needs to be used at least 3-5 times a game, but probably isn't a true back yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted a RB sometime on day 2.
The tight end situation depends on if the resign Conklin. With him they potentially have an elite Two TE set. Without him we go into the year with little more than Irv Smith coming off injury.
OL might be an even bigger issue than we all believe - which would be saying something. As challenged as that unit sometimes has been, my impression is that we ran with 2 TEs (one or both blocking) and/or a pure blocking FB more than most teams - effectively reinforcements for the offensive linemen. How much worse would they have been if our OC wanted to put 5 "weapons" on the field at once, all running routes, more often?
I read and posted an article a few weeks back that the Vikings held the TE to block as another TE more than any other team in the league. It equated to essentially running a 10 man offense because we had two doing the job one is expected to do and it was like 25 percent of offensive plays or something. So if you would just bring that number back to league average it would be a dramatic improvement to the number of targets Kirk has and the pressure that can put on a defense. So I believe making OL coaches, players and the blocking scheme the number 1 priority
