It's sad when you live out of state as a life long Vikings fan and then you interact with people on a regular basis in some form from the actual area the team resides and realize how much of the local fan base is more interested in being morally virtuous than being serious about winning Superbowls. Does this affect the actions of the front office? We truly don't know but you'd think the new guys wouldn't want to ruffle feathers of their closest customers this could lead to decisions based on public perception, which I feel is again, prioritizing morals over winning. Even after the criminal legal system has played itself out. Hopefully they just care about bringing a Superbowl home. Just one before I die.
This is maybe part of why the Ravens unapologetically have 2 Super Bowls and I'm sadly still staring at an empty trophy case. If what I said is true, which it may or may not, in this case it seems so, our empty trophy case continuing may become a self fulfilling prophecy. Sad...😟
It's wild how different the coast are from middle America, I never believed it until recently. I always thought it was crap people would just say to say but it's actually true.
This is a league where for decades home teams have routinely sent escorts to visiting teams hotels. A league where Big Ben, Zeke Elliot, Tyreek Hill, and an owner have all had similar situations as Watson, granted not as many cases, and all of them were only punished with suspensions and fines. A league where the cap space will increase solely due to online sports gambling revenue. A league where they moved a team to Sin City but suspended a player for a whole year for gambling. It's not a league of morality.
Still this is a really tough debate. From a football standpoint you take Watson over Cousins without a doubt if you want a chance to win a Super Bowl in the next 4 years. The money for each is similar, probably more for Cousins since you have to resign him again. Cousins doesn't have the intangibles so he needs an all-star team around him to bring home the trophy. Watson has proven that does have the moxie and can win, but he can't do it all by himself like his last year playing showed us. On the flip side, the moral compass has Cousins winning hands down. The Vikings wouldn't market Watson as the face, it would be JJ, just like they don't market Cousins as the face now.
I'm not all in on Watson but it's a sign or strong effort to winning it all. I believe in giving 2nd chances to young immature men and women so they can prove themselves and become decent human beings. Life is just to short to be judged on a few years. So I wouldn't be upset if they pulled the trade trigger. I've seen what Cousins can do, and I've had enough mediocrity to last a lifetime. If Cousins is the teams choice, then I simply won't watch or spend money on the NFL for a few more years. So be it, I'll be on standby mode till it is over. I can just as easily hike in the hills as I can watch the NFL.
