Well, you've got to feel better about the front seven, that's for sure. The run stopping and pass rush should improve, though the defense is once again a couple of injuries away from complete ruin. I'm interested to see how Donatell uses this personnel compared to how Zimmer did the past 8 years.
That leaves the secondary and OL with clear needs that seem likely to be filled by cheaper FAs or with rookies. Or perhaps some 2nd or 3rd year guys will step up...
Pre-draft I like this a lot. With the upgrades they have made, the absolute worst case is filling in the RG and CB2 with a veteran minimum free agent. That means they can jump on any elite player that slips in the draft. Tackle is probably the only spot we wouldn't take, and if there is an elite LT sitting there, I feel like teams would trade up for that. I don't pretend to be a college football expert, but I'll trust the people that are to know which are the gems in the group that looks to be in our range:
QB - Malik Willis - Great, get a succession plan to Cousins
CB - Gardner / Stingley / McDuffie / Booth JR - excellent, they're elite and check off a need, even better
WR - Williams / Wilson - With another elite WR across from Jefferson, who needs a CB2? Defense is for losers.
LB - Devin Lloyd - If he's elite, we've got an upgrade to Hicks and replacement to Kendricks
DL - Jordan Davis or an elite Edge rusher - Sure, rotate guys in and use the 2011 Giants Super Bowl template of rotating in hoards of pass rushers.
C - Tyler Linderbaum - no, don't do this. I know what I said in the 1st part of this post, but my look at Centers says no way.
