Darrisaw, Osborn, Cleveland, Dantzler, Wonnum and a bunch of guys who barely see the field.

An oft injured LT, an average 3rd WR in the best WR draft in recent memory, a bad pass blocking LG, a below average oft injured CB, and one of the worst starting DEs in the NFL.

The fact Vikings fans are happy with that is why the Wilfs are so content to wallow in mediocrity.

yeah, he's had some duds and I think we all agree Rick has warts. I'd probably let him handle the stuff he's done fairly well (talent evaluation/draft and trades when not under the gun being big pieces) and bring in some help to cover the areas he's weaker in. Like it or not, I suspect Rick will have little problem finding a job in the NFL should the Vikings go on, and I don't think our problems on the field are due to his inability to find talent. He's done a good job there. Developing that talent and the constant game day mistakes are bigger issues in my opinion.

I just listed the best of the past 2 drafts, but lets look at the last 5 and try to find all the talent Rick is giving Zimmer:

My thinking is this: the Wilfs - who really like Zim - will let him step down. Not sure if the distinction matters to fans, but I believe it will for Zimmer. Won't be shocked if Spielman is kept as GM or moved to a different position. I'd be very surprised if he is fired.

Why? Speilman has been here for 16 years with no Superbowl appearances or wins to show for it so it is a good reason to fire Speilman

I'm struggling with the "stuff he's done fairly well". What is that? Regarding trades, which ones ("not under the gun") have been good? I'll grant that he got rid of Percy Harvin at the right time, but what else? Mike Wallace? Yannick Ngakoue, Sam Bradford...Chris Herndon?? I suppose those can all be classified as "under the gun" (although the team swore Ngakoue was not acquired to fill Hunter's absence). But trades "under the gun" could also be called "PANIC" - or maybe just "STUPID trades in which he let another team fleece him and should never have happened". This isn't supposed to be a Spielman evaluation thread so I'll stop.

I think the Wilfs believe Spielman was great during the drive to get USBank stadium built. That's why I'll answer like a lot of you - Spielman will stay with the organization (but not as GM) and Zimmer will leave. My hope is that Spielman's new role is fully tied to community outreach and he doesn't participate in personnel operations.

I beg the Wilf’s.....please, please, please DO NOT hire anyone with Viking stench on their fingers. Now could you do that for the other 31 teams and see how Ricky stacks up against their team's talent. My guess it all evens out in the end. Every year each team will draft a few good players and the rest are just your average joes. 10 teams will get one really good player like Justin Jefferson or a guy like Jalen Ramsey.

Something being missed here is that there are other Leadership roles within a Football Organization besides GM or Director of Player Personnel.

There's a lot that happens from an Operations standpoint. Everything from finance to facilities to IT to vendor management, etc.

If the Wilfs believe Rick Spielman is good at managing people then they can easily find a spot for him in the organization that has nothing to do with interacting with the GM or Coaching Staff.

And that's my prediction. Rick moves into an Operations Management role while Zimmer gets let go.

I did look at the Lions and it really isn't all that different. A few pro bowlers, a few average starters and a bunch of junk. They are one of the least talented teams in the NFL, something we would be if not for the 2015 draft.

Nope. So - if you're asserting the draft is pretty much a crapshoot and all teams get pretty much the same talent from it, especially over the course of a few years - what's the difference?

From what I can tell, the Wilfs and Spielman are very close. I think they appreciate the way he conducts his business. Moving him to a different position seems like a move they'd really welcome.
