I think it's a big risk for KOC and KAM to bet their newly minted careers at the top of the NFL food chain on Kirk. Such careers are often short (except if your name is Rick or Mike, I guess) and if you fiddle around with Kirk and fail it might be over before it starts for these guys.
I think trading Kirk is the best option - which means a bad season upcoming. Play Kellen Mond at qb. Tell the fans to be patient. Get a high draft pick and use it with the picks you get from the Kirk trade to move to a spot in 2023 where you get that franchise guy. Thing is, you can suck for a while on a honeymoon as GM/HC, but possibly having to do it *after* you run another 2-3 years of Kirk out there and go nowhere... good luck with that job security, fellers.
So yeah, heaping praise on him is possibly an attempt to help set the market. Just like the sudden report that "he won't give a hometown discount" could be more stuff being fed to reporters by the Vikings camp to do the same. "We want him but we can't afford him, what would you give us for him?" maybe sets up better than "We don't want him, what will you give us for him?" in terms of fielding offers.
Also, I'm assuming you're alluding to the supposed higher quality QBs that will be available in the 2023 draft? If we got a 1st for Kirk, we could really impact the defense with 2 high 1sts, and then get who we want next year after Mond leads us to 5 wins.
But honestly. I highly doubt the new front office will be willing to tank out of the gate. I like the premise, though.
