As a Viking-Sicko for 51 stinkin seasons, I learned a few things along the way and thought I’d finally share them. These are the sacred cows of the Viking franchise, games, players, coaches, etc that Viking fans are not allowed to impugn in any manner without serious blowback from fellow fans even though.....deep down in the recesses of their championship deprived hearts, know are at least somewhat true: Don’t hate me!!!
1. Jim Marshall does not belong in HOF: Great guy. Great leader. But....100% absent in all SBs and a complete non-factor when facing decent LTs.
2. Krause does not belong in HOF: worst tackler this league has ever known. In fact, he purposefully avoided RBs in the hole. Sure, he ran under sone errant fly balls but he was a huge liability on D.
3. Pearson did not push off. Sorry. He didn’t. Nate overran the ball.
4. The 75 Vikes would not have won SB X had they made it. Steelers were not a good match up for the smaller, softer Vikes. They would have pounded us into the Orange Bowl turf.
5. Bud was not a great coach. He was really good and could have been great. (I can feel the scorn for this one). But come on!! The guy bragged about his cavalier approach to coaching. He wasn’t going to hide away watching film, preferring instead to hunt and fish instead of preparing. Your family needed you. Got it. But you were an NFL head coach; you should have George Allened it!! The fans needed you too.
6. We did not lose 4 SBs due to flat play, bad luck, poor facilities, etc. We lost because every team we played was bigger, faster, stronger. That simple.
7. The Purple People Eaters were not a top 10 all-time D. They were close but their damn vulnerability up the middle was too awesome. Page was too small to anchor the middle against bigger teams.
8. Kendricks is not a good MLB. For some reason, our Ds biggest liability escapes criticism. This board hammers everybody but EK. I don’t get it. Did anyone hear his name called last night? Where is the EK “big hits” compilation vid? What has he done for us lately?
9. There is not a greater Viking than #44. Chuck was the best Viking ever. He was a winner!
10. Our indoor stadiums did not make us soft. Our soft players made us soft.
