The Packers game will be a very interesting evaluation of Zimmer. Zimmer has known the risk of Covid the entire season, his own quotes and attempts to get players vaccinated show that he has been trying to mitigate the risk. Now he has 2 options:

Mannion - "brilliant", picks up the offense really quick and knows what Zimmer wants to do.
Mond - Mobile, athletic, strong armed, bur a raw prospect.

He's had all season to get at least one of those two guys ready to go. I said in the Zimmer lookback thread that Zimmer's fatal flaw is that he's overly analytical, so it makes perfect sense that he'd go with the guy that who knows the offense better on paper vs flexing to Mond, even if that means changing the playbook to take advantage of Mond's strengths and minimize his weaknesses.

If Mannion comes out and looks serviceable and gives the Vikings a chance, they give some credibility to Zimmer's approach (probably not enough to keep him if the Vikings miss the playoffs, but some credibility nonetheless). If Mannion comes out and craps the bed, then it's a huge mark against Zimmer's approach, and evidence that a coach needs to adapt to their players and make the most out of the abilities on their team, not pigeon hole people into "their" system.

I wonder if Zimmer would have taken the same approach to grooming Mond / Mannion if he knew back in August that his job would rest on 1 January game played by a backup QB of his choosing.

I know Zimmer is the HC and the buck stops with him regarding on-field player-personnel decisions and player development, but keep in mind that 2021 is the first year that Zimmer has actually started meeting with the QB's on a weekly basis during the season (he does so on Thursdays for about an hour).

Knowing that, I'm not sure Zimmer really has had a whole bunch of input into developing / grooming Mond and/or Mannion...

I think a good example of Zimmer's unwillingness to adapt to his players was Rhodes: we all knew his skill as a press-man CB were declining and rather than switch up to more zone coverages to play to Rhodes' strength at that point, Zimmer continued his schemes while Rhodes got burned and was ultimately released. Indy picked him up and Eberflus (Indy's DC), who's known as a "Cover 2" defensive coach, knew exactly how to play him.

I don't get it money.. On one hand you act like this covid is a joke. That since you some macho man eff everyone else who might not be so fortunate as you. Then on the other hand you so concerned about a guy on the team getting it man dawg which is it playa. Concern or a nonconcern?
