Who knows for sure let's let it play out, we had to fill a couple spots on the cheap most likely though and that's what these signings were.
I tend to agree on letting these signings play out. I doubt there is any guarantee any of the 3 signings today will make the 53 final roster. I say this for a couple of reasons.
1) While they aren't sexy signings, they do bring in veteran camp competition to fill the roster. We only have 8 draft picks and like 68 (including Davis, Hairston, T Smith) players currently on the roster. they are allowed up to 90.
2) the Vikings do get the extra camp sessions before the draft because of the HC replacement. The 3 players will be extra bodies during these sessions. At minimum, they will come in and give the coaching staff a better feel for what they have to work with and what they will prioritize in heading into the draft.
3) Let's wait and see the exact details of the contracts. I mean, The Jesse Davis signing is for $3M/1 year but how much of that is incentive laden. It almost looks more like a half year rental until they can get a day 2 draft pick ready to start, then he becomes just another backup thereafter. The Hairston deal is still unreported, but if he replaces Boyd, I'm all for it. The T. Smith resigning perplexes me much like bringing back Mannion. Why? I kind of expect more of these types of players signed to fill the roster or the other option is to bring in about 20 UDFA's. Neither is all that exciting.
