$16 mil buyout eh? Those post 2019 extensions for Rick and Mike (that never should have happened as some of us said at the time) are the gift that keeps on giving.

I wonder how much of Childress's extension that he was a dozen games into before canned was guaranteed? I trust the Wilf's to know when enough is enough and not let it get in their way.

Well true. However I don't believe they became billionaire developers by being afraid of spending to improve your investment. Some would argue they went cheap after Childress and hired Frazier. I'm not even scared of cheap and unproven now. They've been throwing mad meat money at the problem for several years. Maybe hungry will prove better.

That is a fair point, since Childress had quite a lot of his contract left when he was fired, if I believe right. I wonder if the Wilfs claimed any of his guaranteed money on the grounds of insubordination (similar to how the Jaguars owner is trying to get all of Meyer's guaranteed money stricken).

Wow, I have not heard that number before. I read somewhere that Zimmer makes $4M per year so figured he had another $8M total, and that maybe 2023 was an option, not guaranteed. But coach salaries are never as public as players' so you may be right.

No kidding. There have been some eyebrow-raising player contracts in the past couple years as well - Cousins of course, but Smith got a scary deal considering his age, Thielen was given a massive extension when his old deal wasn't even about to end, and Hunter has a balloon payment coming that's going to force the team to make a tough choice. Almost like someone was handing out money while they still could.

After being fired Childress was still owned $6+ million in guaranteed money I believe.

Ermmm, they became rich developers by inheriting the biz from daddy and his brother. The fact they are 2nd gen silver spooners charged with maintaining the family cash pile above all else explains a lot about how they run the organization.
