The point that needs to be made if anyone thinks this team is close to contending. The Vikings have not been above .500 in two years. At no point in the past 2 seasons were they any better than .500 during those seasons. The last time the Vikings were positive in the Win column was December 29th 2019.
That team mentioned above is also 16 million over the cap, needs another 4-5 million just to sign draft picks and has 5-7 starters it needs to replace.
Having a 34 year old top 10-15 QB making top 5 money on a team like that is like putting $2,000 rims on a car that needs a new transmission. It's kinda silly.
Sure, but they weren't trying to prolong their window by pushing cap dollars into future years like the Vikings have. The Bengals went to the SB last year and still have $40M+ in cap space available.
It's expected to be below .500 when you're attempting to build something from the ground up, it's not expected when you think you're a couple players away from a SB championship.
