There are 4 bowl games on tap for today, 2 of which are the Playoff Semifinals, so quite honestly, the other 2 will probably just get lost in the shuffle a bit and just be highlights during halftime of each of the semifinal games.
But, regardless of how meaningless they are in terms of the final score, there will be a few 2022 prospects on the field. Because there were so many 2022 prospects littered in the semifinal games, I included those in the College Football Playoffs thread, and this thread will just be dedicated to the 2022 prospects playing in the "other" bowl games...like the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl ....
Prospects to watch - 12/31 (non Semifinal Bowl games)
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl - 11AM ET
- This game was originally supposed to be Wake Forest vs Texas A&M but A&M had player shortage issues so they bailed, and since they pulled out early enough, the NCAA had time to find another team - a 5-7 Rutgers team.
- Sid Hartman, QB, Wake Forest: he's not going to be a starting NFL QB and he doesn't have good size (only 6'1", 208 lbs), but he's scrappy, has good mobility to improvise out of the pocket and I can see him being a preseason superhero and winning a roster spot on an NFL team somewhere. He had a real confidence problem during the ACC Championship; threw some bad picks and really, really beat himself up over it (very visible during the national TV broadcast) and he has to learn to "let go" of bad plays. If he can do that, I can definitely see him as a QB2 or QB3 in the NFL and putting up Sloter-like preseason stats.
- Ja’Sir Taylor, CB, Wake Forest: #72 on Feldman's 2021 "Freaks List; only 5'10" and 185lbs so you're looking at nickel-only CB in the NFL; I've read he's a solid zone corner but perhaps over-aggressive and is just a UDFA at this point. Granted it's just Rutgers, but some solid tape could elevate him to late Day 3 consideration.
Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl - 2PM ET
- Similar to previous bowl, this was originally supposed to be Washington St vs Miami, but Miami backed out and because they did that in time and Central Michigan's bowl game was cancelled, the NCAA Ok'd Central Michigan slotting into this one to play Washington St.
- Bernhard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan: #26 on Feldman's 2021 "Freaks List"; with several Washington St 2022 prospects opting out, Raimann becomes the top guy to watch in this one. He has several fans in the Scouting community and will be at the Senior Bowl looking to make more of a name for himself. He's 6'7" and 305 lbs, so slightly on the "lean" side, but he moves really well - which is probably why the scouting community like him.
