2019: Base Salary - $8,500,000/ Signing Bonus - $2,000,000 / Workout Bonus - $410,000 / Cap Hit - $10,910,000 / Dead Money - $17,500,000
2020: Base Salary - $12,000,000 / Signing Bonus - $2,000,000 / Workout Bonus - $660,000 / Cap Hit - $14,660,000 / Dead Money - $7,000,000
2021: Base Salary - $13,000,000 / Signing Bonus - $2,000,000 / Workout Bonus - $660,000 / Cap Hit - $15,660,000 / Dead Money - $2,000,000

Due to his player option the practical guarantee is a 3 year deal worth $35,846,000 (roughly $12M/season) going year to year in 2020-2022.

IMO people don't give Spielman enough credit for this move. Not only did we draft a #1 CB in Rhodes with the first draft pick, but we also obtained a solid backup running back with the other pick. That combined with selling high on Harvin at the perfect time, that has to be Spielman's best move he's ever made.

A deal that averages $13 million is quite good among NFL cornerbacks. Once you adjust for cap environment, Xavier Rhodes ends up as the ninth-highest paid cornerback in the NFL. Presumably, the deal includes escalators for Pro Bowl or All-Pro appearances which have not been triggered because escalators only apply for first-ballot Pro Bowlers, and Rhodes was a reserve last year.

If anyone's wondering, the Vikings' cap space in 2018 factoring in Rhodes' new contract will be roughly $34.6M. If you're wondering how I calculated this number, I took all of the current 2018 salaries and I slashed all of the current UDFAs' salaries (realistically we won't have most of them on the team, so no point counting them) and I ended up at a total of $133M team cap for 42 players. The projected 2018 cap is $168M (says Spotrac) but it could be higher.

2018 Free Agents:
QB Bradford
DT Floyd
DT Jones
CB Newman
OLB Lamur
DT Tom Johnson
QB Bridgewater
CB Sherels
QB Keenum
G/C Berger (said he's going to retire)

The Vikings will probably need upwards of $22M to sign a QB, so this won't leave them with much cap room. Outside of QB, the only position that seems to need more money invested into it is DT.

However, there are a couple players that probably won't get their 2018 salaries.
WR Wright - $4.26M - I don't think he makes the 2017 roster, so there's no way he makes this in 2018.
HB Murray - $6.35M - Unless Murray has a huge 2017, I don't see any way he makes this much. The Vikes can cut him without losing much money.

That's another $10.5M right there, so I imagine the 2018 Vikings will be A-OK.

His deal also includes a guaranteed base salary of $10.4 million in 2018. Rhodes is eligible to receive per-game roster bonuses of $500,000 each season from 2018-22, based on how often he’s on the Vikings’ 46-man gamed roster, and can get workout bonuses of $100,000 each year, as well.

The new money in the deal averages $14.833 million in the first three seasons of the extension (2018, 2019 and 2020). That’s the fourth-highest three-year average for any corner in the league, putting Rhodes just in front of Desmond Trufant (who went three picks before Rhodes in the 2013 draft) and behind only Josh Norman, Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman.

He’ll carry a salary cap number of $10.426 million in 2017 — up $2.4 million from his original figure, thanks to his signing bonus proration — and cap figures of $13.4 million in 2018 and 2019. In the final three years of the deal, Rhodes’ cap charges will be $12.9 million, $14.15 million and $13.85 million, respectively.

It’s a lucrative deal for one of the better cornerbacks in the league, but the Vikings weren’t going to led Rhodes leave after the season. By front-loading the contract, as they usually do with extensions, they retain plenty of flexibility when Rhodes is his 30s for the final three years of the deal.

After Rhodes’ deal, the Vikings have $11.7 million remaining in cap space.
