So what will a new Regime (Please, Lord, Let it Be) have to work with?
On Offense you have Jefferson, Thielen (few more years in the tank, hopefully) and KJ with hopefully ISM developing.
A promising young TE1 that hasn't actually blossomed yet. No TE2 as it doesn't make sense to re-sign Gronklin unless it's a team-friendly deal.
Likely no RB1 (Cook will ultimately get suspended and dropped by Minnesota and end up in KC after a year on the sidelines) as I just don't think Mattison is Starter material.
Darrisaw and O'Neill are set on the Offensive Line. Maybe 1 League Average Guard between Cleveland (he's really a Tackle) and Captain Penalty Machine Udoh (he's really a Tackle). Maybe 2 if a competent Coach comes in and develops Davis. No Center.
And most importantly, no QB. Kirk will Start next year and then take his mercenary self to who knows where (Jets after they ruin Wilson?). Mond is no sure thing.
So no QB, RB1 (can get those at 7/11), and an iffy Interior O-Line. Not a total Rebuild but missing some very important pieces, including the most important one.
On Defense it looks much worse. I can't see extending Hunter when you're rebuilding. So zero proven DEs. Tomlinson has underperformed but he's not going anywhere. Pierce can't stay healthy and may be cut for cap space. Watts and Lynch are nice rotational pieces but not currently Starter level guys.
So the D-Line is a total mess. How about the LBs? Kendricks has several years left in the tank considering that Bobby Wagner is still going strong. And that's really it. Somehow, Mike's kid couldn't develop the 3rd best Linebacker in the Draft from 2 years ago. The ACC DPOY is stuck on the bench as an older Rookie. Vigil and Lynch are basically Replacement Level Players. Not good.
OK, how about the Secondary? Unless Woods takes a team-friendly deal it's aging Harry and Bynum, who's looked great in the small sample we've seen so far. Not bad at Safety, really. You can scheme to take advantage of what Smith can still do.
Corner is even worse than the D-Line. Makes no sense to keep Peterson. Breeland stinks. Dantzler is massively inconsistent. Mac stinks. Boyd makes Dantzler look like a model of consistency. Hand doesn't see the field enough to really know. Ouch Time with this position group.
ST is meh. Kicker is starting to show some consistency. Punter appears to be a keeper.
So some pieces on Offense with the glaring need for a true Franchise QB. A Defense that needs a complete Rebuild at all 3 Levels.
Whomever gets the keys to this minivan is going to need some patience and time to turn it around, in my opinion. What do you think?
