Aren't those easier said than done? Reminds me of the old Steve Martin routine: "How to be a millionaire! Step 1: Get a million dollars."
How do you talk Kirk into a team-friendly deal? Just because he said, "Viking 4 Life!" in an interview, he hasn't ever gone for that in his career. Some new self-realization the team needs some of "his" money to build a winner around him? He could have seen that after the 2019 season when he signed the new extension, couldn't he? He gave them a bit of cap relief for 2020, but at the cost of crippling the team the next two seasons. Is that his idea of team-friendly?
I think Kirk has heard there is going to be a cap increase with lots of teams able to spend this offseason, and aiming to get traded to some team that will give him one more fat long-term deal. Oh, they will think, "He signed an extension that lowered his 2022 salary from $45M to $30M for us! And all we had to do was guarantee $105M over the next three years..."
I'm sure he hears how half the fan base absolutely hates him and it has to bother him. What would change that narrative more than being the guy to deliver this fan base to the promised land.
That's my pitch at least. Maybe they should let me talk to him. 😂😂😂
