The disconnect between Rick and Zim started with Cousins. Zim didnt want Kirk and knew he wasnt right for the team that was built. I think we can say that Zim was right in that aspect, our Oline was trash and we are bringing in an expensive pocket QB. Now here we are today with 1 playoff win since then and our coach taking shots at a rookie 3rd round QB, I think that is subtle taking shots a Rick. Zim is 100% gone, Rick and Kirk are the only questions. You can say maybe Rick has a leash based on last years draft selections, but is a 3rd round pick QB in which we had 4 of them really showing that leash? I guess you can pick Surrat as a project too but still. Based on our FA signings and projected starting defense many thought this was going to be a top 10 possibly 5 unit. I think the Wilfs are torn what to do with Rick, he is likely a pretty good friend of there's so I believe some of the rumors where he may step down to an advisory role. I would personally like a new GM I think new eyes are needed all around.
I see that mentioned all the time that Zimmer didn't want Kirk, and fully believe it. My question is, what was the alternative? Teddy was not even a full year removed from a catastrophic injury, Bradford was cooked, and ge didn't believe in Keenum. What was the choice?
The extension is where the problem lies. If Rick knew the two weren't meshing then he needed to dump one. That was Rick's major F' up.
I'm a believer I the theory about Rick moving up as an advisor to the Wilf's and out of the personnel department. I'm betting he even floated the idea himself.
