They can have him. Yes, nice stats - especially those low INTs. Cousins has never been especially bold and this year he is being more cautious and left points on the table in many games - and as people like to point out, we have lost a bunch by narrow margins.
I'm convinced that in Cousins' famous offseason "review of every pass I've thrown", he was focused on reducing mistakes, not finding more opportunities to produce points. He likely could see that the team was falling apart and minimal INTs will improve his marketability. If the Vikings finish 7-10 and Cousins threw 12+ picks this year, many people will assign a lot of this team's failure to him. But if Cousins has 4,000 yards, 30 TDs, and only 5 INTs, outsiders will think the team failed in spite of him - just like a lot of posters here. He's an average QB making elite QB salary because he excels at manipulating his perceived value and marketability, not because he wins.
Yes, I lived through the different-QB-every-week era that featured Brooks Bollinger and Kelly Holcomb, and I recognize the stability of Cousins. But calling up the Ghosts of Bad Quarterbacks Past and fearing that level of QB incompetence is the same as saying "if we get rid of Zimmer and Spielman, we could be as bad as the
Sort of agree, but the narrative was he's a Stat padder taking advantage of garbage time. He has almost no garbage time and he's led his team to leads in every game, often late in the game. I think Cousins improved a lot this year. He's not perfect, but really good. Unfortunately all his improvements were negated by a trash defense.
I see both sides but I think it's not accurate to say his stats are just smoke and mirrors.
Agreed. It’s hard to say he has garbage time stats when every game is decided on the last drive or last play
