Sounds weird.
As with all things Vikings, any damage this does to the team falls on inept management which never should have given him an big money extension, not because of his character but because running backs (other than Derrick Henry) don't matter.
They could get 80% of Dalvin's production for about 1/10 the cost with Mattison and be just fine, especially if they'd abandon Zimmer's antiquated 1970's philosophy and start attacking with what they already have - a stacked bunch of skill players being made to run decoy routes while they force Dalvin up the gut for no gain or dump off to fullbacks in check down spots.
It's just a horribly mismanaged team that doesn't have the right scheme, coach, g.m. or anything else at this point, except some very nice talent that is being wasted at the fan's expense year in and year out. Purple boredom, punctuated by periodic police rap sheet reports. Nice job Rick Spielman and company.
Here are some more similarly interesting takes.
You could pay a 800 yard max a year receiver a fraction of what you pay a 1k one.
You could pay a 3200 yard a year QB a fraction of what you pay one who consistently puts up 4K
An 8 sack a year defensive end is a lot cheaper than a 10 sack a year defensive end.
Seems like we could fill up our roster with a bunch of mediocre players and save tons of cap and everyone knows filling a team with mediocre talent is the best way to win a championship.
The guy makes 2.7 % of the cap this year and the most he will likely ever make is 5.6% next year. After that the Vikings can easily cut him or force him to restructure making all the whining and gnashing of teeth over the team extending one of their best players pretty pointless.
