Hand to hand combat training is very limited in the Army unless you are with a special unit. Yes, you get some in basic training. But my bet is that is all she got. In order to be good at something like fighting, you have to train on a regular basis. If you stop, your skills diminish. I know people who took Karate for years but never "sparred". When it came time, they got their asses kicked by someone who had been doing if for less than a year but sparred on a regular basis. It's like training for boxing and never stepping into the ring. You know the moves, you just don't have the experience needed to put them together would get all flustered.
