I would be concerned if they ended up with Tua... very concerned. But since they've drafted a guy that profiles closely to Josh Freeman, I'm really not. Even if he does pan out, the earliest he's going to help them out is 2022. And honestly I'll be more excited that Rodgers is gone because in all likelihood Love will be a downgrade.
I'm even less concerned now that the Packers failed to draft a WR in one of the deepest WR classes ever!
Tua is the complete opposite of Love though. He wouldnt make any sense sitting behind Rodgers for years. Tua is pro ready, but doesnt have the elite physical skills of a guy like Love.
Josh Freeman? Not really, Freeman never had the arm talent, release, etc of Love. Love physically compares to Mahomes, he has crazy arm talent, there just no getting around that.
If Love works out, it's going to absolutely suck for everyone in this division. Am I confident he will work out? Nope, but the chance he does terrifies me, as it should everyone else here.
As I said, the last high upside raw arm talent GB gave a first round pick for was Favre. And Favre never had a season in college statistically equal to Love's 2018, neither did Rodgers or Mahomes.
I found it far more surprising that GB went RB in the second rather then WR, maybe they try to move on Odell? Idk, I found that to be way more surprising then taking Love, a guy many projected to GB anyway.
Here’s the thing, though: Everyone knew that at some point in the next few years, GB was going to have to address a QB plan behind Rodgers. Finding a great (heck, even a good) QB is extremely difficult and not as easy as finding someone with a cannon arm and letting them learn for a couple years. So the fact that Green Bay swung on Love just fulfilled what we all knew was coming at some point.
BUT
The fact that they did so this early in Rodgers’ remaining timeline, trading UP, certainly pissing off Rodgers and doing nothing to help their currently very competitive team, on a guy that was projected as a late first rounder with huge red flags, is about as good of a win as we could realistically ask for when it came to GB’s future QB plan. Yes, there’s always the chance that Love could be great. Just like there was a chance that Trubisky could be great for the Bears. Or that Bridgewater could be great for us. I’m just glad that they didn’t somehow luck into a Rodgers injury and #1 pick Burrows situation, Colts-style from Manning to Luck.
