Most here are familiar with the idea that Zimmer's Vikings dominate bad teams (with records below .500) and lose to good teams (with records above .500), when taking into account the team's final record once the regular season is over. Take into consideration the team they beat:
Seattle now sits at 2-3 in what's probably the toughest division in football, and Wilson is likely to miss 2 months or so. That looks like a ticket to 6-11/7-10, meaning that the Vikings did in fact beat a 'bad' team when we defeated them.
-
Conversely, we've lost to the 3-1 Bengals, who look better than expected. While I wouldn't pick them to make the playoffs, I think they could certainly finish with a winning record.
The Cardinals look like one of the best teams in the NFL, or at the very worst, have an elite offense.
The Browns look like one of the best teams in the AFC and should definitely be in the playoffs.
-
So, is losing to the Vikings a "curse", a deathnell guaranteeing a bad season? And is beating them a sign that said team will have a good season? What are your thoughts on the matter?
* The Vikings usually lose one trap game to a 'bad' team and pull one big upset against a 'good' team ever year
** This is not taking into account the "Nemmy system", which counts the record that the team coming into the game has rather than their final record.
