It's literally like football players are children the way we talk about this concussion "problem". Think of all the industries that are bad for someones health or end up causing long term health problems for people that nobody talks or cares about. Bunch of big spoiled babies in the NFL. They want to make millions, have the fame, and be coddled too. Ohhh poor me, I've gotten so used to attention all my life and now that football is over I gotta find new ways to get my fix, so now I'm a victim, feel sorry for me.
Football causes brain damage, it is known, and players still aren't bypassing the opportunity to play football to go sell insurance instead. Weird! It's almost like they've made a choice. It's the same choice I'd make if I was good enough to play in the NFL because the combo of football and money are almost as good as the combo of peanut butter and chocolate.
I'm actually having trouble deciding what to be more surprised at - the lack of commentary on this entire thread (except from you) or your stance on the issue. It's a tough call. At least someone is forwarding an opinion. Where is everyone? BTW, thanks for offering your opinions.
You do make a valid point and it's backed up by some players but certainly not all in that if known of the risks, they'd do it again. I'd actually wait on such opinions until they are past their 40's and 50's to get a different perspective. I've seen many differing from that point of view. And if they don't want their children playing, I respect that entirely. I have a close friend who was a star (All-Metropolitan team for DC, VA, MD) in high school and always talked about his son playing football. His son is five now and knows how to properly catch and protect the ball and block efficiently. My friend absolutely knows all the risks involved but is ignoring that to keep his dream alive. It's certainly not the kid's choice. I've broached the topic a few times and he becomes quiet and changes the subject. We'll see how that plays out. His wife is a doctor but I'm not sure she's aware of the concussion issues in football.
It seems that your take on this is to have the players rub dirt on their heads and shut up since they all know the risks involved. Okay. I would just want to be sure they are fully aware. It seems that not all the players were told everything.
