He would probably be top 4 if he hadn't disappeared last year. He started all 16 games and only had 7 sacks despite Griffen commanding most of the attention. He recorded 12 sacks in 2016 without starting a single game.
I wanted to take a look and compare his competition from last year to this, but apparently Danchat wasn't doing his Depth Chart Review in 2016. Ofc we weren't here in 2016, but I don't recall him doing it over at the other place. So I blame him for me not being able to finish my project. And ofc PFF isn't sharing their info either.
But I still got some good info. I don't know how good the RT's were in 2016, but the ones in 2017 were average at best, and it doesn't explain why Hunter dropped off as much as he did. It certainly wasn't because of playing time as he took 172 more snaps than he did in 2016, and started every game. Only 1 sack against guys who were considered below average or worse.
Actually it looks to me like Hunter went up against some of the best RTs in the league last year. Ryan Ramczyk was one of the best in the league in his rookie season, and those Great ones in the dark green are the cream of the crop as PFF has zero Elite RTs.
It is still disappointing that he failed to rack up sacks on the bad teams... having zero sacks between both CHI games, CLE, and GRB is pretty bad. If he wants a $15M+ per season deal, he's going to need a repeat of his 2016 season.
I really like this analysis. Maybe we could see some more of it and see how Everson Griffen did against LTs? Or maybe we could analyze how well WRs did against CBs and vice versa.
