I enjoy speculating on 53 man rosters and other things of that sort, so here's what I think right now. Feel free to comment about who you think will make the team.

-Notes-

Bridgewater might be ready to come off the PUP 6 weeks into the season, but that's a tough thing to predict. I'll keep him off the roster for now and I'll have Heinicke as the 3rd QB until Teddy's ready.

I think Michael Floyd will end up getting a 2-4 game suspension and this will keep a roster spot open. Rodney Adams and Stacy Coley will get chances to prove themselves before he gets back, with Adams possibly returning kicks.

I left T. J. Clemmings out on the offensive line. Right now I see Rashod Hill as the backup LT, Sirles as the backup RT and LG/RG, and Easton as the backup C. Isidora has potential but he'll likely start out as a weekly inactive. Unfortunately, it will take only one injury for Clemmings to make the team...

I'm not sure if both Odenigbo and Weatherly will be make the team, but there's room on the team for the both of them.

Some have been down on Tom Johnson, but I think he had a solid 2016 and he should return for another rotational role. The team doesn't seem to have a true nose tackle to back Joseph up with, as Jaleel Johnson is more of a 3-Tech like Jones and T. Johnson.

Right now Edmond Robinson is working out with the first team in Greenway's old role, so I'll pencil him in there. I'm not sold on Lamur keeping a roster spot, but he's a fine backup. I like Elijah Lee as a prospect.

There's still room on the roster for a 6th CB, and I think Tre Roberson will make the team. He impressed me during the 2016 preseason, and if he can do that again, he'll make the team.

Jack Tocho is the only drafted rookie not making the team, as I don't think he's ready to displace Harris or Kearse at safety. The Vikings need to upgrade their depth there or get a big leap from Kearse.

I have Symmank making the team as the primary punter. Quigley just isn't good, so that's mainly why. I've heard Koehn is pushing Forbath for his starting spot, but Forbath's veteran presence will win him the job.

Any thoughts?

Case Keenum, while Colin Kaepernick remains unemployed... just silly, especially since it's related to the anthem protect. I have a tough time believing that Kaepernick is not a better backup than Keenum.

Kaep is definitely a better QB than Keenum, but two things:
Would Colin be willing to take $2M with just $750K guaranteed?
Would Kaep be willing to be the 3rd string QB once Teddy is healthy?

Geez, forget this fricking guy if this is true. The guy has serious issues, like Josh Gordon issues and considerably less talent. So much for the positives of having former college teammates Smith and Rudolph around him. I hope the NFL suspends him a year...it would serve the Vikings right for bringing him on in the first place.

Since the first preseason game has ended, I'll update my 53 man roster prediction:

-Notes-

I've decided to have the Vikings carry just 2 QBs after Heinicke's poor display. The Vikes traditionally carry 3 QBs but it's not essential - it will shift to 3 QBs if/when Teddy is ready.

I've heard good things about TE Kyle Carter, so I'll include him on the roster.

Stacy Coley has looked a lot better than Adams so far. The Vikings could go with 6 WRs when Floyd is ready.

I'm still sticking with Sirles on the roster. I know some are projecting Clemmings and Beavers to make the team, but I think Sirles is a very good backup guard. He can also play offensive tackle.

Tashawn Bower had a fantastic preseason week one, so I'll put him on the roster over Odenigbo. I think the Vikings will carry 5 DTs with Stephen lighting things up in camp.

Eric Wilson has clearly impressed some folks on the coaching staff and he's clearly past Elijah Lee. He could be PS material.

Whoops, that's my mistake. Cook is atop the depth chart, I just forgot to move Murray down.

Undrafted DE Tashawn Bower making noise in battle for roster spot by Matthew Coller

It didn’t take long for Tashawn Bower to show that his success in training camp could translate to the field.

Shortly after entering Thursday night’s preseason opener, the former LSU pass rusher sacked quarterback TJ Yates. Throughout the rest of the game, Bower consistently beat his man, picking up three quarterback hurries and the highest overall game grade from Pro Football Focus.

“That was a dream come true,” Bower said Sunday. “I dreamed my whole life of being able to do it, to play at the highest level. Getting an opportunity to go out there and show coaches what I can do was something I really enjoyed.”

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end had unimpressive numbers in college, finishing his career with only 5.5 sacks. But something clicked for the Vikings’ rookie toward the end of 2016.

In the final regular season NCAA game, Bower played 73 of his total 338 season snaps and picked up three hits, four hurries and two stops. Then against Louisville in the Citrus Bowl, he sacked the quarterback three times.

At the NFL Combine, he posted the third best 60-yard shuttle among defensive ends, but Bower’s lack of experience and shortage of weight/power kept teams from picking him on draft day.

An NFC Scout told NFL.com that Bower was, “long and athletic but he’s not very strong. He’s a developmental type who you hope can be unlocked by your position coach.”

According to the website Mockdraftable.com, Bower’s weight was only in the 10th percentile and bench press in the 23rd, but his height, broad jump and 60-yard shuttle were all 75th percentile or above. In more simple terms: With added strength, he might have serious athletic potential, so the Vikings signed him.

Of course, there are shades of Danielle Hunter in Bower’s story. Hunter rarely sacked the quarterback in college, but quickly became one of the NFL’s elite edge rushers once he joined Mike Zimmer and defensive line coach Andre Patterson in Minnesota.

The two players’ athletic profiles are not that similar outside of height. Hunter’s profile compares closely to that of former No. 1 overall pick Jadaveon Clowney, while it’s hard to find a good NFL comparison for Bower’s NFL Combine results.

That's a lot of rookies on the team. 11 of them!

Even though Ham is listed as a FB, I expect to see him used as a backup HB. This offense is going to be in the shotgun a whole bunch, so Ham's not gonna be blocking in the I-formation or anything like that.

Hopefully Quigley has improved his punting because the Vikes are going to be doing a lot of it.

If Tramaine Brock transitions to nickel well and Waynes improves, this defense isn't going to have any glaring weaknesses. Barr needs to be better as well.

I wonder how the kick returning will work. I imagine McKinnon will start out as the KR but Sherels/Adams/Coley might get some returns too. I don't trust Adams' hands though.
