*Frazier coached the final 6 games of the 2010 season after Childress was fired
Mike Tice
4 "full" seasons**, 32 wins, 33 losses, .492 win% (1 playoff appearance, 1-1 playoff record)
**Tice coached the final game of the 2001 season after Denny was fired
Norm Van Brocklin
6 seasons, 29 wins, 51 losses, 4 ties, .345 win%
Brad Childress
4 "full" seasons***, 39 wins, 35 losses, .527 win%, 2 Div titles, 1 NFC Champ Game (2 playoff appearances, 1-2 playoff record)
***Childress was fired after 10 games in the 2010 season

Denny Green

****Denny was fired after 15 games of the 2001 season
Bud Grant

Zimmer has the 3rd most wins in Viking history and if often ranked neck-and-neck w/ Jerry Burns for who's the 3rd best HC in Viking history. Jerry had a better win% and a better playoff record, but Mike won 1 more Div title and will be coaching into his 8th season whereas Jerry only coached 6. Even though Van Brocklin had a low win% vs Tice, I gave Van Brocklin the advantage because he was the 1st NFL HC in Viking history and lasted a few more seasons than Tice did.
1. Zimmer over Burns - you explained your reasons but I can't agree. At least Burns put together a winning streak in the playoffs in 1987, and unlike Zimmer, his team wasn't whipped and embarrassed in the NFCCG. Also - Burns won without as much ownership commitment and a GM who didn't communicate with him (e.g., "I gave half your players for a tailback that doesn't fit your offense"...)
2. Also, Van Brocklin...is being the first coach really worth much? I would actually understand if you (or anyone) knocked Tice down a few pegs because of the ticket scalping scandal or Love Boat happening on his watch...but not because he didn't last as long. He won more games in less time...and he had to do that working for Red McCombs.
My order:
1. Grant
2. Green
3. Burns
4. Zimmer
5. Childress
6. Tice
7. Van Brocklin
8. Frazier
9. Steckel
I almost put Zimmer and Childress in a Tie.
