It's a disaster.
We are at best a 9-8 team who scratches to make a playoff.
We are 2-3 injuries away from being simply horrific.
Why are the Vikings at best a 9-8 team? Do you think the Coaches and the veteran players who have a clue feel this way? I hear optimism from both offensive and defensive players. Some if it is PR, but is all of it PR? I doubt it.
2-3 key injuries would certainly be a blow. We could probably agree on the handful of critical players on each side. But if a starter goes down on both offense and defense, will the Vikings really be horrific? Again, I doubt it.
Because the offense was good last year. I don't expect it to be better. Jefferson / sophomore slump? Rudy is gone, does that change things?
Is Kirk going to be better? Or the same? Or worse?
I'd venture to guess the offense overall will be about the same.
Defense was horrible. We have some guys back, but I don't think that takes us from horrible to top 10.
We have a lot of old guys on our defense, and our youngest "stars" from last years draft are already looking bad, or have been cut.
There are no young defensive stars on this team younger than a 6 year veteran in Danielle Hunter.
The defense at some point needs a major rebuild with youth, and there aren't any pieces out of the 11 you can look to and say "Yeh, there's a starter for our team who will be a cornerstone defender in 2024".
Lots of age.
Age brings more injuries.
If Cook is injured, if Cousins gets hurt, if Jefferson gets hurt, or even I guess O'Neill at this point, we're pretty much toast.
