While it is bad form to hope a guy loses his job, there are a few players on the team going into camp that I think most Vikings fans would be happy to see not make the final roster. Dozier for instance, I think most people want gone and for good reason. If he makes the team that means we KNOW our interior depth on the Oline isn't very good. If he gets cut, it means players at least showed more potential than one of the worst guards in football last year.
Other players I am hoping get cut:
Stephen Weatherly
Putting aside the fact that cutting him saves 2 million that could be better used rolling over to next year or throwing into a burning dumpster. Weatherly getting cut tells us the Vikings really like a couple of our young DEs. Zimmer loves him some vets who knows his system, and to give up Weatherly that would be a huge deal for this Vikings pass rush. If he sticks around, and worse, starts, this pass rush will be average at best, even with Hunter. Tomlinson and Pierce are not great pass rushers and while Richardson has a better history than those two at pass rushing, he isn't exactly Aaron Donald. Hunter right now is the only real pass rush threat.
And for those of you saying Weatherly isn't that bad:
Weatherly's Pass Rush Win % Rank:
2018: 92nd out of 109 Edge Rushers
2019: 94th out of 105
2020: 109th out of 121
Weatherly's Pressure % Rank:
2018: 77th out of 109
2019: 78th out of 105
2020: 115th out of 121
Pass Rush Grade:
2018: 80th out of 109
2019: 105th out of 105
2020: 108th out of 121
If you think he isn't that bad you are wrong. He has consistently been one of the worst pass rushing DEs in the NFL the past 3 seasons.
Britton Colquitt
With his restructure and the Vikings cutting his only competition, I am less concerned about him remaining on the team than I once was. However, cutting one of the worst players at their position is typically a good way to improve your team, and Britton is just that.
Of 30 qualifying punters:
20th in YPA
20th in Hangtime
27th in Net YPA
30th in punts inside the 20
More than any other punter Britton was kicking for distance and he was 27th in net YPA. He is bad.
Ameer Abdullah
Unlike the two above, Ameer didn't suck last year. My issue with him isn't really with how bad he is as much as how I really don't want him to be the guy to share snaps with Mattison when Cook goes down. At the 3rd RB spot I like a guy with actual upside like Boone had last season. Abdullah has none of that, he is just a dime a dozen RB who isn't going to do anything special either running the ball or returning kicks. Time to move on to a guy with actual potential.
There is another guy I would add to this list but I like his story and am rooting for him to succeed even though I know he won't.
Putting aside Dozier and the QB, who do you all want gone? Do you agree with who I have above?
